AppFrame

WebSite CMS

Website CMS is a content management system based on Appframe. It is optimal for corporate, information and documentation sites. The CMS supports dual-language websites, and does not currently support blogs. Sites such as Omega’s homepage and InsideOmega are powered by Website CMS.

It is split into two main parts, the server and the forms. The server runs on Appframe R3 Web, and is used to serve the actual website and lets users access your site. This must be installed manually and with assistance from an Omega employee.

The other part consists of two forms found in your R3 installation, Website CMS Articles (subsequently “Articles”) and Website CMS Setup (subsequently “Setup”). Articles lets you change the content of your site, while setup lets you do structural, behaviour and design-related changes to your website. Please note that setting up and designing a site requires familiarity with HTML and CSS.

Website concept

At its core, Website CMS is a way of organising a collection of articles and presenting these the way you want. Your site consists of the site itself with attributes that changes the way it behaves. There are a variety of objects connected to this site, such as layouts, cascading style sheets, scripts, graphics, folders and articles. Articles in turn have images and files connected to them.

When visitor requests a page from the Website CMS server, it will pull all these objects together and send the result as a webpage. The above illustration shows how the layouts and article are put together. The Article ID and Folder ID are attributes that appear in the URL on your website. For instance, if you have an article with the ID “faq” inside a folder called “information”, the link to this article will be “YourWebsite.com/information/faq”. Article and Folder IDs are always lower case.

Website CMS Articles

This module lets you write, sort and manage articles for websites that are set up using Website CMS Setup (subsequently “Setup”). The entire content of the site is hosted in this module, while the CSS, JavaScript, content layouts and the underlying site framework are hosted in the Setup module.

Before using Website CMS Articles (subsequently “Articles”), you need to set up a site. When this has been done in the Setup module, you can open Articles and choose your site from the Hostname (site) pull-down menu on top of the module:

All your articles are then loaded in the table on the right side. They can be sorted by Article Id, Folder Id or Sort Order, and searched by writing in the top row. By default, it displays all articles, but you can filter out the unpublished articles by clicking the “Exclude Unpublished Articles” button on top.

Creating a new article step by step

Click the “New Article” button on top, and write the desired Article Id in the corresponding field. Choose which folder you would like the article to be saved in, and click the save button in the top left corner. Those are all the required steps, but you can also add various settings before you start editing.

After an article is initially created and saved, you should give it a title and some content. The title field is used to name the article on the site, and can be different for different languages. It should not be confused with Article Id, used to generate the URL and in the table view on the right.

If your site has one language, you have these tabs in your article editor:

Settings

Folder

Folders are created and managed in Setup. By default, folders are placed on the root level of the site, but you can make as many subfolders as you like. All articles need to be assigned to a folder.

Content layout

If you would like to give a set of articles the same look, set aside from the rest of the site, you may use content layouts. These are defined in Setup, and applied to articles by choosing from the “Content Layout” pull-down menu in Articles.

List on frontpage

This setting can be applied if you want to list the article using the frontpage attribute in our placeholder.

Hide article from navigation lists

When articles are published (done by checking the “Published to Web” box and save in the top left corner), they are listed in their corresponding folders online. If you want a published article to be hidden in the menus and navigation lists online, you may check the “Hide article from Navigation lists” box. The article will still be published, but not listed in menus and navigation lists.

Sort order

In Setup, you can choose to sort articles in a folder by title or by date. If they are sorted by date, the “Sort Order” field in Articles is used. It has both time and date, making the sorting virtually infinite.
